Monday we didn't have school so we couldn't start working until Tuesday. On Tuesday, I helped Myles finish drilling the last few holes into the pipe. Along with that, I took apart the speaker. The reason I did that was because in the instructions for making the Rubens Tube it says to use a speaker then wire it up with an AUX cord so you can play sounds from your phone or computer. I disconnected each part by unscrewing everything. There were 3 sections to the speaker. The back layer held the battery. The middle had the chip. The front layer had the speaker. After taking it all apart, I consulted with my partner about what we should do with the speaker. The speaker was already wired and it had an AUX cord so I went into the conversation thinking I should put it back together and we could just use it the way it was. My partner and I talked about it and we agreed that I should put it back together and we'd use it how it was. My day was spent drilling holes and taking the speaker apart and putting it back together. Scott also mentioned something about a tone generator. I looked it up and found a website which was a tone generator. If we don't play music into the tube we can use the tone generator and that clearly shows the standing waves and they change when I change the frequency on the website. We also covered the outer edge of the speaker with electrical tape. The reason we did that was because when the speaker got pushed up against the tube the outer layer was out in the open. We thought music was escaping from the outer layer so the electrical tape was our attempt to keep the music trapped in. Overall we had a productive day and got close to finishing.
Thursday we got the basics of our Rubens Tube done. My partner Myles marked the gas line holes then we had to drill two guide holes. The guide holes weren't wide enough for the hose barbs. We then took the pipe to the drill press. We used Scott's special drill bits to widen the holes. It took a few tries (widening the hole, then going back to the table to see if the hose barb fit.) to get the exact size hole for the hose barb. The hose barb had the hose attached to it and my partner and I struggled for about 5 minutes trying to take it off. After that we took a box cutter and just cut it off. We eventually got the hose barb into the hole with the help of a wrench. Once that was done we were ready to test. We tested it and it worked.
Thursday was not the most productive day. I spent most of the day updating my blog. I had pictures on my phone that I emailed to myself so I could put them in my blog.
Friday was a day for finishing touches. Today we spent the day trying to fix the propane problem. The nozzle for the propane doesn't fit into our hose so we needed to find a way to make it fit. We asked Scott about it and we did a little bit of research before going to Ace. After that we knew what we had to buy and walked down to Ace. We got there and went to the isle where they had all the nozzles but WE couldn't find the one we needed. We asked and employee for help but thy looked as well and told us that they didn't carry the parts we needed. We came back and talked to Scott about it. He told us to find the parts on Amazon. Myles, my partner looked it up and found some parts. He found Scott and asked him about them. After that Scott took us up to his computer and helped us find everything. With his help we were able to find the few parts we needed and we ordered them. The order is below.
